Behaviour Clinics.
With in our behaviour clinics we offer advice on both cats and dogs. Sharon has been a qualified behaviouralist for over 13 years. We offer behaviour clinics in house at our Langport surgery and by appointment only. To book an appointment please contact our Langport Vets and we can discuss your requirements.
Socialisation Visits
These appointments are for our more nervous patients or owners who wish to get their pets more used to a trip to the vet. During these clinics, we aim to get the patient used to the consult rooms, reception, and scales while building their confidence. We provide lots of positive reinforcement during these visits with plenty of attention and treats. By doing this, it gives them a positive association with the vets and helps them get used to the surroundings. If you have a dog that is reactive, we can arrange for these appointments to be done at a quieter time of the day by speaking to a member of the team. These appointments can be scheduled as frequently as required and sometimes can be as simple as passing by on a walk, stopping in at reception to sit on the scales. A member of staff will be available to say hello and give some treats before you continue on.
Puppy Clinics
During our puppy clinics the nurse will weigh your puppy/kitten, discuss any questions that you have regarding vaccinations, flea/worming protocols, neutering etc. It also allows time for your new addition to get used to the smell and surrounding of the vets. There is no charge for these clinics, it is a good idea to see them even if it is just to bring them in for some fuss!
Weight Clinics
Weight clinics are conducted by one of our nurses monthly, though they can be more frequent if required. During these clinics, the nurse takes an up-to-date weight measurement of the patient by putting them on the scales, takes measurements of areas such as their waist, and discusses nutrition and exercise.
By doing this, the nurse can then advise owners on any changes they can make to their pet’s lifestyle to help them reach their ideal weight and body condition
Diabetic Clinics
During our diabetic clinics, the nurse will check in to see how you’re getting on with the treatment, discuss diet and lifestyle, give a general checkup, and perform a weight check. They will also check the blood glucose during the appointment to ensure that it is at a good level. If any changes to treatment are required, they will refer you to a vet for a consultation to discuss further.
Dental Clinics
Dental clinics can be done to find out more information on how to prevent dental disease. These are mostly done following a dental procedure to ensure that the patient is doing well. They also offer a chance to discuss preventative dental treatment and demonstrate this such as teeth brushing and other options.
Flea and Tick Clinics
These clinics are run mainly when you pet is under 6 months old as this is when they’re doing a lot of growing! As a result, they are moving up through the weight brackets for flea and worming treatment, allowing us to ensure that they receive the correct dose. However, these appointments can be done at any age. Additionally, it is a good opportunity for them to come in and familiarise themselves with the practice and staff, have a fuss and get some yummy treats! It’s a nice, positive experience so they won’t be fearful of visits to the vet in the future! The flea and worming treatment can be administered during these visits if required, please request this ahead of your appointment to ensure that we have the correct product in stock.
Nail Clips
We offer nail clipping for cats, dogs, rabbits, and guinea pigs. This is done with one of our nurses and costs £15 (free if you’re on the Pet Health Plan) and is done during a 15-minute appointment. We give you the option to hold your pet or if you would prefer then we can ask another nurse to hold them as we know that some can be wriggly!
Post operative check-ups
These appointments are scheduled for patients who have recently undergone surgical treatment or are undergoing wound management. During these appointments, the nurse will check the wound site to ensure that it is healing well, take the patient’s temperature, and change any dressings if necessary. They will also address any concerns or questions regarding the treatment with the owner. These appointments aim to reduce post-operative complications and are typically scheduled for a post-operative check three days after the procedure followed by a check-up seven days later. Please note that some cases may require more frequent visits.
