We are able to diagnose and treat our patients quickly and effectively to ensure the very best outcome.

Our specialist diagnostic equipment includes:

Digital X-Ray equipment.

Blood Pressure monitors.

Ultrasound Scanner – to allow us to view the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, liver and other internal organs.

Blood Sample analysis equipment – allowing us to review blood tests immediately.

Dental X-Ray Machine and Dental treatment equipment.

We also provide dedicated nurse clinics specialising in a range of animal needs.

An X-ray is a quick and painless procedure commonly used to produce images of the inside of the body. It is a very effective way of looking at the bones and can be used to help detect a range of conditions.

We have digital X-ray equipment at both our Langport and Street practices, operated by our own in-house trained specialists, to assist in early diagnosis.

We are able to offer dental X-rays at our Langport branch.

An ultrasound scan is a procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to create an image of part of the inside of the body. This can be used to monitor or diagnose a condition, or guide a surgeon during certain procedures.

We have modern ultrasound machines at both the Langport and Street branches. Ultrasound imaging is a non-invasive diagnostic tool. At our Street branch, Hermione offers cardiac and abdominal ultrasound imaging, having completed advanced courses in both.

Our Blood Testing equipment allows us to assess your pets general state of health as well as testing for a range of animal health concerns including infections, heart conditions and some cancers. It also allows us to see how well certain organs such as the liver and kidneys are working.

We have modern blood analysers, providing us with accurate, same day results. We use these alongside an external laboratory for more specialised tests when they are required.

We also have high quality microscopes and modern urine analysers.

Additionally, we are equipped with modern dental tools, including an ultrasonic cleaner and dental drills. A dental x-ray machine is available at our Langport branch.

Dogs
At Langport and Street Vets, we vaccinate to protect against Leptospirosis, Distemper, Hepatitis, and Parvovirus. We stock both Lepto 2 and Lepto 4. If you have a preferred vaccine please mention at time of booking or consultation.

Puppies
Puppies can receive their initial vaccinations from 6 weeks of age. This is followed by the second vaccination administered from at least 10 weeks of age. Active immunity for your puppy will develop 2 weeks after receiving the second vaccination.

Our preference is to use DHPL2 vaccine from 8 weeks of age with a second vaccine 2 to 4 weeks later.
Lepto4 vaccine requires the second vaccine 4 weeks after the first dose.

Adults
Annual boosters are necessary to maintain your dog’s immunity.
They require a Leptospirosis booster every year, while boosters for Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvovirus are administered every 3 years.
Administering these vaccines at the recommended intervals ensures adequate protection against these diseases while minimizing the potential for side effects. Annual kennel cough vaccination is also recommended.

Cats
Vaccination against Cat Flu (feline rhinotracheitis), Feline enteritis (panleukopenia), Calicivirus and FeLV (leukaemia) is recommended.

Kittens
Vaccinations are administered from 9 weeks of age with a second vaccination 3 weeks later. Annual boosters are required to maintain this immunity.

Adults
Annual vaccination for Cat Flu, enteritis is necessary. Feline Leukaemia vaccination is boosted every 3 years.

Rabbits
Rabbits require vaccinations against two distinct diseases: Myxomatosis and Viral Haemorrhagic Disease. It is essential for rabbits to receive vaccinations that encompass both strains of Viral Haemorrhagic Disease, namely Type 1 and Type 2. The vaccine we administer covers all the mentioned conditions in a single dose. Rabbits can be vaccinated from 5 weeks of age, and an annual vaccine is necessary thereafter.

The diseases we vaccinate against are regrettably often fatal. It is important to ensure that these vaccinations are kept up to date to minimise the risk of contracting these diseases.

Rabies
If you plan to travel with your pet to an EU country, your pet must have a rabies vaccination, an animal health certificate, and be microchipped. For more details, please refer to the pet travel section.
